Septic System Installation

Your property’s septic system is one of the most important investments you’ll make as a rural homeowner. A properly designed and installed system protects your family’s health, safeguards your groundwater and nearby waterways, and prevents costly emergency repairs down the road.

Marchington Excavation provides full-service septic system installation for residential and commercial properties across Lanark County, Renfrew, Arnprior, Mississippi Mills, West Carleton, Manotick, Greely, Kemptville, Smiths Falls, Merrickville, Cumberland, Rockland, Embrun, Vars, Limoges, and the greater Ottawa area. We handle every step of the process — from initial site assessment through system design coordination, excavation, installation, inspection, backfill, and final grading.

We offer both septic system design and installation — so you can work with one company from start to finish instead of coordinating between multiple contractors. Every project is personally led by owner William Marchington.

Types of Septic Systems We Install

Every property is different. Soil conditions, lot size, proximity to water, number of bedrooms, and local regulations all determine which type of system is right for your home. We install all major system types approved under the Ontario Building Code, including:

Conventional Septic Systems

The most common and generally most affordable option, consisting of a septic tank and a leaching bed. Suitable for properties with adequate lot size and favourable soil conditions.

Filter Bed Systems

Used when soil conditions require additional treatment. Includes a layer of engineered filter sand for extra filtration. Common on properties with clay soils found throughout Lanark County, Kemptville, Cumberland, and parts of east Ottawa.

Eljen GSF Systems

A BMEC-approved system using engineered geotextile modules that can reduce the required bed size, ideal for smaller lots or properties with space constraints.

Our Septic Installation Process

01.

Initial Consultation & Site Visit

We visit your property to understand your needs, evaluate the terrain, and discuss your options. We'll explain the process, timeline, and costs clearly so there are no surprises.

02.

Design Coordination & Permitting

A qualified septic designer will complete your system design based on soil testing. We coordinate with the designer and help you navigate the permit process through the MVCA, RVCA, South Nation Conservation Authority, or your local municipal building department — depending on your property's location.

03.

Excavation & Site Preparation

We excavate for the septic tank, distribution box, pump chamber (if required), and leaching bed. We ensure proper grading and elevation throughout.

04.

System Installation

We install the septic tank, distribution piping, treatment components, and leaching bed according to the approved design. We use approved sand and aggregate materials and follow all Ontario Building Code specifications.

05.

Inspection

Your installation will be inspected by the approving authority to confirm compliance with the approved design and the Ontario Building Code.

06.

Backfill & Final Grading

After inspection approval, we backfill the site, restore grading, and leave your property clean and properly finished.

07.

Homeowner Guidance

We walk you through how your new system works and provide guidance on proper maintenance to maximize its lifespan — including pumping schedules, what not to flush, and how to protect your leaching bed.
